1. What We Collect
If you are a student with us or a potential student, we collect personal data, such as your name, gender, date of birth, NRIC or Passport number, contact details, address, e-mail address, academic qualification, designation, occupation, years of experience, company’s name when you:
(a) create a new user profile online
(b) register online for an exam or apply for exemption from an exam
(c) register online to attend a course
(d) ask us for a Letter of Certification or for a Letter of Attendance for the course(s) you have attended
(e) send in an enquiry via e-mail, phone or Contact Us or
(i) ask us for any other service relating to any course or exam
We may also take photos and/or make videos of you when you attend our courses. Also, whenever you come to our premises we capture you on CCTV.
We also collect the personal data described above if you apply for a job with us or if you apply to become a lecturer with us.
2. How We Use What We Collect
We use the personal data we collect for:
(I) Examination Related
(a) registering you as an exam candidate and receiving registration confirmation e-mail from us;
(b) signing the Student Contract;
(c) processing exemption application;
(d) processing invoice and payment;
(e) collecting Study Text(s)/Study Guide(s);
(f) retrieving registration data;
(g) administering your exam, including verifying your identity before your exam starts;
(h) issuing your Result Slip, Certificate (if applicable) to you;
(i) processing any refund that you are entitled to;
(j) issuing a Letter of Certification or Transcript to you or to a third party at your request;
(k) disclosing your exam results to a company/principal that sponsors you or its appointed agency for evaluative purposes;
(l) disclosing personal data to any partner that jointly organised the relevant exam with us;
(m) disclosing personal data to any government authority/agency or regulatory body as and when required;
(II) Course Related
(a) registering you as a course participant and sending you our acknowledgement letter/invoice;
(b) processing your invoice and payment;
(c) issuing a Certificate of Attendance to you;
(d) processing any refunds to which you are entitled;
(e) issuing a Letter of Attendance to you when you send us a written request to do so;
(f) disclosure to third-party service provider for arranging of ancillary services being necessary for the programme, like transport or accommodation, etc.;
(g) security clearance necessary for any site visit;
(h) marking your attendance at a course;
(i) providing your profile to the lecturer of a course you plan to attend;
(j) providing your name and your company’s name to other individuals attending the same course as you;
(k) disclosing personal data about you to any partner that jointly organised the relevant course or programme with us;
(l) disclosing your attendance to any government authority/agency or regulatory body as and when required;
(a) promotion/marketing purposes from the photos taken during the courses or events organised or co-organised by the SCI;
(b) reviewing of CCTV footage for security, offence, misconduct or other regulation related purposes;
(c) verifying and answering any received enquiry or feedback relating to any course/exam matter; and/or
(d) sending marketing e-blitzes and brochures relating to our exams, courses and programmes.
3. When We Disclose Your Personal Data
In order to provide the above services to you, we may share your personal data with our partners and third party service providers. They are subject to confidentiality obligations and may use the personal data only to perform the functions for which it is provided to them. We may also disclose the personal data to any relevant regulatory body or under a court order when required to do so.
We will not otherwise disclose your Personal Data to third parties. You will have the opportunity to indicate whether you wish to "opt out" of receiving promotional and/or marketing information from the SCI. You may also choose to unsubscribe to our mailing list at any time, by clicking the “Unsubscribe” button in the e-mail or by writing to us. Your request will only take effect within three working days after we receive your request.
When transferring to a recipient outside Singapore, the SCI will also ascertain and ensure that the recipient is bound by legally enforceable obligations that provide a standard of protection that is at least comparable to the PDPA.
4. Withdrawing Your Consent
You may at any time withdraw your consent to us continuing to use and disclose personal data about you. If you want to do this, please let us know in writing (which may be through the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website). We will let you know the consequences of withdrawing consent so that you can decide if you do want to go ahead with the withdrawal.
5. Access to, and Correction of, Personal Data
You are entitled to get access to the personal data we hold about you. If you have registered with us, all of the personal data you have provided to us is shown in the ‘Profile’ section of our website so you have access to it there. You can also get your exam results, when they become available, by requesting them through the Request for Letter of Certification option under e-Services on our website.
(a) have not registered with us or
(b) are unable to access your Profile and/or our website or
(c) want access to any personal data that we hold about you that is not included in your Profile,
please write to us (which may be through the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website). Unless the law says we must not provide it to you or gives us a reason for not providing it to you, we will provide the personal data to you and tell you how we may have used or disclosed the personal data in the 12 months prior to your access request. If you access personal data by viewing your Profile and want to know how we may have used or disclosed personal data about you in the previous 12 months, please let us know through the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website.
We reserve the right to charge a reasonable administration fee for carrying out your request.
If you learn, whether or not through an access request, that there is an error or omission in the personal data that we hold about you, please see the following section about ‘Accuracy of Personal Data’ and how you can get personal data corrected.
6. Accuracy Of Personal Data
The accuracy of your personal data is important to us. If you have registered with us, all of the personal data you have provided to us is shown in the ‘Profile’ section on our website. Please check your profile from time to time and make any changes that are necessary to bring it up to date or to correct any inaccuracy.
If you have not registered with us, or if you are unable to make a change to your Profile, please write to us (which may be through the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website) to:
(a) let us know if you think there is any error in the personal data we hold about you and/or
(b) keep us updated on any changes to your personal data as soon as possible after the change occurs.
7. How We Protect Personal Data
We protect personal data by making reasonable security arrangements to prevent unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks.
8. Using Our Website
We automatically receive and record information from your browser on our server logs, including but not limited to your Internet protocol address, cookie information and the page requested. Should you wish to delete any cookies that are already on your computer, please refer to the help and support area on your Internet browser for instructions on how to locate the file or directory that stores cookies. However, by doing so, you may not be able to use certain functions, or enter certain sections of our website.
9. Retention of Personal Data
We will retain personal data about you only for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purpose for which we collected it and we no longer need it for legal or business purposes.
10. Other Websites
Solely for your convenience, our website may contain links to certain third-party websites, such as the Monetary Authority of Singapore, or The Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom. We are not responsible for the privacy policies of such third-party websites. If you provide any information to such third parties, different rules regarding the collection and use of personal data about you may apply. We strongly suggest that you review such third-party websites’ privacy policies, before providing any personal data to them.
